The pictures captured so much of our trip, but we reflected on and also noted a few facts we want to remember about the journey:
• 25 days on the road
• 75 meals eaten in the Airstream, on the trails/in the parks, or in restaurants on the road.
• Total miles driven: 3830
• 6 states visited (California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico) plus the obligatory photo shoot at the 4 Corners.
• 6 National Parks visited (Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Mesa Verde, Arches), and 2 Navajo Nation Parks & Rec protected areas (Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon).
• Saw at least 2 families of big horn sheep, a dozen elk (including one a few yards from our bbq in the Grand Canyon), one badger, a roadrunner, and many deer, lizards, frogs, chipmunks and squirrels.
• Highest recorded temperature reached: 123 degrees (in Death Valley)
• Lowest recorded temperature: we think 65 degrees (in Bryce)
• 6 boxes of Mac n Cheese eaten
• Unknown but definitely large quantities of coffee, Clif Shot Bloks and Clif bars consumed
• Countless crazy thunder and lightening storms and two recorded hailstorms - it was monsoon season in the desert! Plus flash floods and rockslides in Zion hours after we hiked the Narrows.
• Only one starry night sky viewed - just too hot or too stormy in the evenings
• 11 National Park Junior Ranger Badges earned
• One roadtrip mascot: Bob the inflatable rainbow unicorn cup holder
• Two roadtrip nicknames earned: Tweety the Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew cab short bed truck; chased by Sylvester the Airstream International 28 foot RV trailer.
• Two birthdays celebrated: Michael Lee Simmons’ 46th on July 12, and Sabina Kathryn Simmons’ 9th on July 23rd.
• AND... A lifetime of happy memories and family adventures traveling, hiking, biking, swimming, eating and laughing together.
